Space, shape and measurement: Use and apply transformations to plot co-ordinates

Subject outcome 3.4

Use the Cartesian co-ordinate system to derive and apply equations

Learning outcomes

  • Use transformation geometry to translate [latex]\scriptsize p[/latex] units horizontally and [latex]\scriptsize q[/latex] units vertically.
  • Use transformation geometry to reflect graphs about the x-axis, the y-axis and about the lines [latex]\scriptsize y=x[/latex]and [latex]\scriptsize y=-x[/latex].

Unit outcomes: Unit 1: Transformation geometry

By the end of this unit you will be able to:

  • Find the coordinates of the point [latex]\scriptsize (x,y)[/latex] after it is translated [latex]\scriptsize p[/latex] units horizontally and [latex]\scriptsize q[/latex] units vertically.
  • Find the coordinates of the point [latex]\scriptsize (x,y)[/latex] after it is reflected about the x-axis, the y-axis, and the lines [latex]\scriptsize y=x[/latex]and [latex]\scriptsize y=-x[/latex].
